Guard (Auxiliary) Instructor ~ Dora Washington

Dora WashingtonMs. Washington strives to promote a friendly and dynamic approach to color guard with a focus on technique and movement. A Georgia native, Ms. Washington attended Mill Creek High School in Houston, Georgia where she was a member of the Pride of Mill Creek Marching Band and MCHS Varsity Winterguard for four years. She received The Director’s Award in 2011 from Mr. Eric Mason for her involvement and leadership in the concert, marching, jazz, and winter programs.

Ms. Washington is an alumnus of the University of Alabama, where she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Geography and contributed to several environmental rehabilitation projects in the surrounding community. Ms. Washington was a member of the Million Dollar Band Color Guard and Alta Marea Winterguard from 2012 to 2015. During her time at the University of Alabama, she performed at two National College Football Championships and was a featured dancer and vocalist in the 2015 production “A Promise Kept”.

Ms. Washington has worked as a freelance color guard instructor since 2012. She has worked with beginner to collegiate spinners throughout the Southeast in flag, rifle, sabre, and dance. Since returning to Georgia, Ms. Washington has been thrilled to find a home as the Color Guard Director at West Forsyth High School.  Ms. Washington currently resides in Chamblee, GA where she spends her free time gardening and playing with her dog Charlie.
