A native of Alliance, Ohio, Sharon earned her B.S. in Communications, English Education, and Theater from Bowling Green State University (OH), and her M.S. in School Counseling from Capella University (MN) and is also a Counselor at West Forsyth High School. She began working as a freelance choreographer, designer and clinician in 1994 and has worked with several successful color guard programs throughout Ohio, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, Florida and California.  

From 2013-2017, she was the Color Guard Program Director at Castle High School (IN). Under her direction, the program is the 2014 and 2015 Indiana High School Color Guard Association Scholastic A Champion, a 2015 WGI Scholastic A finalist, a 2016 WGI Open Class semi-finalist, and in 2016, the band was a BOA Finalist for the first time in program history. From 2005-2008, she was the Assistant Band Director and Color Guard Caption Head at Concord HS (NC). She has also spent time working with Marvin Ridge HS, Thomas Worthington HS, and Collierville HS.  Her most recent programs include Boonville HS “Band of Gold” (IN), Mooresville HS Winter Guard (IN), Artistry IN Blue Winter Guard (OH), and JSU Center Stage Winter Guard (AL).  Additionally, she served as the Color Guard Caption Head for the 2003 charter season of the Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps and spent time as a choreographer for Marching Show Concepts in Ft. Wayne, IN and Creative Solutions in Idaho.In addition to teaching, designing and consulting, Sharon has served as a Color Guard, Visual, and Effect adjudicator for several circuits and organizations throughout the United States including USBands, the North Carolina Bandmasters, the South Carolina Music Educators Association, the Carolina Indoor Performance Association (CIPA), the Ohio Indoor Performance Association (OIPA), the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA), the Gulf Coast Judges Association (GCJA), Winter Guard Arizona (WGAZ), and the Mid-Continental Color Guard Circuit (MCCGC). 

Sharon and her husband, Ron, also own Beyond the Downbeat (www.BeyondTheDownbeat.com), a successful programming, design, and consulting group for marching bands, winter guards, and indoor percussion/winds.
