Assistant Director of Bands ~ Al Estep
Alfred S. Estep is delighted and honored to join the West Forsyth High School Band Family as the Assistant Director of Bands, effective and beginning in the 2019 – 2020 school year. Mr. Estep served as Director of Bands at Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek, Georgia from 2009 – 2019, and as of May 24, 2019, he retired from Johns Creek High School and the State of Georgia. 2009 marked the inaugural year for the Johns Creek Band, opening with 27 marching band members. Currently, the band program has grown to over 160 members. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Estep served as Director of Bands at Roswell High School in Roswell, Georgia from 2001 – 2009. Mr. Estep is a veteran teacher of 37 years in Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina. His concert bands and marching bands have consistently earned superior ratings and numerous championship accolades at a variety of festivals and competitions. Mr. Estep is married to the most wonderful wife in the world, Dana Gutteridge Estep, and has three adorable children, Taylor Bronwyn Phillips  (husband CJ Phillips), Alfred Miller Estep , and Sam-e Estep .
Mr. Estep holds a Bachelors Degree of Music Education from East Tennessee State University and a Masters of Arts Degree from The University of Alabama. His professional affiliations include, Georgia Music Educators Association, Phi Beta Mu International Band Fraternity (State President 2015-2017), American School Band Directors Association, and Phi Mu Alpha. He has served GMEA as the District V Chair, and during 2006-2008 and 2012-2014, he served as District V Band Chair. He has also served as host for various band events, such as, District Large Group Performance Evaluation, Solo and Ensemble, and several marching band festivals/competitions. In addition, he has served on the North Carolina Band Curriculum Revision Committee, and the GMEA Band Adjudication Committee. Mr. Estep is an active clinician and adjudicator in Georgia and throughout the southeast.
